Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup + 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup white sugar for coating
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon powder for coating

Instructions

Make the Dough

  • In a saucepan over high heat, combine water, butter, salt, and sugar.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and gradually add the flour, stirring continuously until the dough forms a ball.
  • Remove from heat and let it cool for about 5 minutes.

Mix in the Egg

  • Once slightly cooled, add the vanilla extract and egg.
  • Use an electric hand mixer or wooden spoon to mix until smooth.

Pipe the Churros

  • Transfer the dough into a piping bag with a star tip.
  • Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  • Spray the air fryer basket with nonstick cooking spray.
  • Pipe bite-sized churro shapes directly into the basket, leaving space between each.

Air Fry the Churros

  • Lightly brush the churros with melted butter.
  • Air fry for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.

Coat with Cinnamon Sugar

  • In a bowl, mix the sugar and cinnamon.
  • While warm, toss the churro bites in the cinnamon-sugar mixture to coat evenly.

Serve & Enjoy

  • Enjoy warm with dipping sauces like chocolate, dulce de leche, or Nutella.
  • Pair with a cup of coffee, hot chocolate, or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for extra indulgence.

Notes

  • Dough Consistency: The dough should be soft and pipeable but firm enough to hold its shape.
  • Don’t Overcrowd the Air Fryer: Leave space between churros for even cooking.
  • Best Coating Tip: Toss churros in cinnamon sugar while they’re still warm to help the mixture stick better.
  • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat in the air fryer for 1-2 minutes at 350°F to restore crispiness.
  • Make-Ahead Option: The dough can be prepared 24 hours in advance and refrigerated.
