Ingredients

For the Hamburger Steaks:

  • 1 pound ground beef lean preferred
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Gravy:

  • 1 can 10.5 oz beef broth or gravy (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 tablespoon flour optional, for thickening

Optional Add-Ins:

  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese cheddar or mozzarella
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas carrots, or corn

Instructions

Prepare the Hamburger Patties

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, mix ground beef, onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper until combined.
  • Form the mixture into 4-6 equal patties and arrange them in the baking dish.

Prepare the Gravy

  • In a small bowl, whisk the flour into the beef broth for a thicker gravy.
  • Pour the broth evenly over the hamburger patties.

Add Optional Ingredients

  • Sprinkle shredded cheese over the patties for a cheesy crust.
  • Scatter your choice of frozen vegetables around the patties.

Bake the Casserole

  • Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the patties are cooked through (internal temperature of 160°F/71°C) and the gravy is bubbling.

Serve and Enjoy

  • Allow the casserole to cool for a few minutes before serving. This dish pairs beautifully with mashed potatoes, buttered noodles, or a fresh salad.

Notes

  • Substitute cream of chicken soup if you don’t have cream of mushroom.
  • For a lower-carb option, use almond flour instead of breadcrumbs in the patties.
