Ingredients

For the Filling

  • 6 cups about 5–6 medium apples, peeled and sliced
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • cup 65 g granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • 2 tsp cornstarch

For the Crisp Topping

  • ¾ cup 75 g old-fashioned rolled oats
  • ½ cup 60 g all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup 100 g brown sugar (light or dark)
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup 115 g unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • Optional: ½ cup 60 g chopped pecans or walnuts

Instructions

Prep Apples

  • I peel and slice 6 cups apples into ¼-inch pieces, tossing with 2 tbsp lemon juice to prevent browning. I add ⅓ cup sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon, ¼ tsp nutmeg, and 2 tsp cornstarch, stirring to coat. I spread into a greased 8×8-inch dish for this easy recipe.

Make Crisp Topping

  • In a bowl, I mix ¾ cup oats, ½ cup flour, ½ cup brown sugar, ½ tsp cinnamon, and ¼ tsp salt. I work in ½ cup cold butter with a pastry cutter until crumbly, adding ½ cup nuts if using, for this cozy fall dessert.

Assemble and Bake

  • I sprinkle the topping over the apples evenly, keeping it loose for crispiness. I bake at 350°F (175°C) for 40–50 minutes until golden and bubbling for this crisp fruit treat. I cover with foil if browning too fast.

Cool and Serve

  • I cool the crisp for 10–15 minutes to thicken the juices for this Classic Apple Crisp, then serve warm for a cozy fall dessert.
