Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup 125 g all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup 45 g unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup 200 g granulated sugar (or coconut sugar)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt

Wet Ingredients

  • ¼ cup 60 ml water
  • ½ cup 120 ml vegetable oil (canola, sunflower, or melted coconut oil)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar

Optional Add-ins

  • ½ cup 85 g vegan chocolate chips
  • ¼ cup 30 g chopped walnuts or pecans
  • 1 tsp espresso powder

Instructions

Prep Oven and Pan

  • I preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). I line an 8×8-inch pan with parchment paper to prevent sticking for this easy recipe.

Mix Dry Ingredients

  • I sift 1 cup flour and ½ cup cocoa powder into a large bowl to avoid lumps. I add 1 cup sugar, 1 tsp baking powder, and ½ tsp salt, stirring well for this fudgy vegan dessert.

Combine Wet Ingredients

  • In a medium bowl, I whisk ¼ cup water, ½ cup oil, 1 tsp vanilla, and 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar until smooth for these chocolatey brownies.

Mix Batter

  • I pour the wet ingredients into the dry, folding gently with a spatula until just combined. I avoid overmixing to keep these plant-based treats tender. I fold in ½ cup chocolate chips or ¼ cup nuts if using for this easy recipe.

Bake Brownies

  • I spread the batter evenly in the pan and bake for 20–25 minutes. I check with a toothpick for moist crumbs to ensure a fudgy vegan dessert.

Cool and Serve

  • I cool the brownies in the pan for 10 minutes, then lift out using parchment and cool on a rack for this Easy Vegan Brownies treat.

Notes

  1. Don’t Overmix: Overmixing can lead to tough, dense brownies. Mix the batter until the ingredients are just combined for the best texture.
  2. Use Quality Cocoa Powder: Since cocoa powder is the main flavor component, using high-quality cocoa powder will make a big difference in taste.
  3. Let Them Cool Completely: It’s tempting to cut into the brownies as soon as they come out of the oven, but letting them cool completely will give you cleaner slices and allow the flavors to develop fully.
